I’m thrilled to have Yvette Vargas Executive Vice President, Head of Development at Citizens Bank on the show. As a first generation Cuban American, Yvette has taken to heart her mother’s sage advice to remember to “climb and lift” others as a champion of DEI initiatives within Citizen as well as in developing and operationalizing Citizens’ work to promote social equity and drive economic advancement in underserved communities.
This episode focuses on how reflection and being intentional helped Yvette transform from a shy, introverted girl to a mission-driven executive and the lessons she learned along the way.
Here are three takeaways from our conversation:
- Change is an act of will. Yvette believes to transform you have to first make the decision to change and then create habits and disciplines to support your journey.
- Activate your vision. In work and life, Yvette challenges us to reflect on our life vision and ask, “What do I need to become to activate that vision?”
- Climb and lift. Yvette shared this sage advice from her mother, who always told Yvette and her sisters to climb and lift up one another by sharing their gifts, knowledge and experiences.
This week’s Mojo Move is to Notice What’s Working.
In this episode, Yvette talks us through her daily morning check in to Notice What’s Working – she asks herself, what do I have to accomplish today, what is my intention for today, and what results do I want from my day? This simple practice is a perfect example of intentional reflection to ensure a high level of effectiveness and focus in your day-to-day life.
So, this week I invite you to start your day on a similar note, and also reflect on your past 24 hours. At the end of the week, I’d love to hear how your answers to these three questions change and evolve throughout the week, and if you find yourself being more intentional with your time and energy.
While many companies have built in check points like annual reviews and the like, personal audits of what’s working day to day or year to year, are less common – this is why I developed the Activate your Mojo VISION Program, to support Fortune 500 Leaders and their teams navigate this process of reflection.
If your team could benefit from taking a step back to Notice What’s Working (and what needs to be tweaked), I would love for you to reach out about my Activate your Mojo VISION Program. Finding the right development opportunities that balance professional development and team connection are critically important and I would love to help. You can find learn more at i2Leadership.com
As always, Mojo Mondays Bootcamp is here to show you what’s possible in your life. I hope these notes and my weekly Mojo Move at the end of the interview help you find and activate your Mojo!
